The Cats may have had the last laugh, but young Tigers star Shai Bolton had the highlight of the night.
Richmond young star Shai Bolton put in an early contender for mark the year with a stunning grab during the Tigers’ clash with Geelong at the MCG.
During the first quarter of tonight’s grand final rematch, Bolton found himself with his knees on the shoulders of Cats defender Mark Blicavs as he brought down the ball to pull off a stunning mark.
The 22-year-old then backed up his effort by slotting the goal.
“That was special,” Brian Taylor told Channel Seven.
“That was an absolute ripper… that was a superb mark.”
Geelong great Cameron Ling added: “They had the numbers there, the Cats.
“But they just allowed him a clean run at the footy, no one put a hand on him.”
Social media was quick to react, with Brisbane Lions star Charlie Cameron leading the way as fans were left speechless on Twitter.
Unfortunately for Bolton and the Tigers, Geelong had the last laugh following a dominant second-half performance to come out victorious 19.12 (126) to 9.9 (63).
Richmond was leading by nine points at half-time before the Cats responded during the third quarter when they notched a string of seven straight goals to completely blow the Tigers off their home deck.
Geelong recruit Jeremy Cameron starred with a six-goal performance, while Gary Rohan (five) and Tom Hawkins (four) both contributed in large part to the 63-point thrashing.
