Dustin Poirier has apologised to Conor McGregor following an explosive clash on social media over a donation to the Louisiana fighter’s charity.

Earlier this week, McGregor threatened to pull out of the trilogy fight with Poirier after the American took to social media to call out the Irish fighter for failing to make a $655,000 AUD donation to his The Good Fight Foundation as promised.

However, just hours after UFC boss Dana White officially announced the fight will take place in front of a capacity crowd at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Poirier sent out an apology to his rival.

“I am very passionate about my charity as you all know,” Poirier wrote on Twitter.

“I jumped the gun and took my private matters between Conor and my foundation public.

“My mistake, we live, we learn. Spreading positivity and doing good is my goal.

“I feel like I have brought a negative energy and personal opinions into something I am working so hard on that gives people a reason to cheer and smile.

“I will take this in stride and continue to fight the good fight! New goal coming soon and it is a big one. Thank you to all who is involved and all the supporters who believe in our vision.”

The apology comes after a McGregor took aim at Poirier after the US fighter took issue with what he perceived to be a broken promise.

“You’re ripped you inbred hillbilly.

“Why do you wink with your ears? You f***ing brain dead hillbilly.

“$500k with no plan in place. Ye hang tight. Fool. You must be new to money.

“The fight is off btw. I’m going to fight someone else on the 10th. Good luck on your old contract kid.”

Earlier Dana White announced the UFC 264 bout between the two will be in front of a packed live crowd.

“I am so happy to finally be able to say Vegas is back.

“This summer, Las Vegas is back open for business.

“And on July 10, UFC 264 will be at the T-Mobile Arena here in Vegas at 100 per cent capacity.

“Ladies and gentlemen, that’s 20,000 fans.

“And this card will be headlined by the third fight between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor.”
