David Fifita has grabbed all the headlines, but Peter Sterling says an unheralded teammate makes the Titans tick.

Eels legend Peter Sterling has lauded Jarrod Wallace for his impact on the Gold Coast Titans, saying prop could be in line for an Origin recall.

The Titans have shot up the ladder on the back of the high-profile acquisitions of David Fifita and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, but Sterling pointed to Wallace’s re-birth as the perfect example of coach Justin Holbrook’s impact on the Titans players.

“You talk about David Fifita and big Tino and the effect they’re having on this football team, but what about Justin Holbrook when it comes to Jarrod Wallace?” Sterling asked on Wide World of Sports’ Sterlo’s Wrap.

“He’s back playing the type of football that he did when he was a State of Origin player.

“He’s got a pass, but there’s other littler subtle moments as well. He’s linking well with AJ Brimson.”

Sterling said Holbrook’s ability to improve his players who aren’t standouts was the biggest sign of his positive impact on the club thus far.

“They’re looking to use the football and they’re looking to throw things at the opposition that the opposition don’t normally see, and that comes down to some great coaching,” he said.

“He’s turned around the style and the play and he’s making their players better players. I know that Fifita and Fa’asuamaleaui are standouts, but you have a look at Corey Thompson, he’s always been a good player, well now every week he’s (great).

“Jarrod Wallace is probably the best example for me.”
