Middle East Naval Exercises of US, Belgium, France and Japan

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates News – The US Navy said on Sunday that it would conduct a major naval exercise with Belgium, France and Japan amid tensions over Iran’s nuclear program in the region. The group will see ships from four countries practicing Arabian Sea Warfare exercises in the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman. Ships included include the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle as well as the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island.

Belgian frigates HNLMS Leopold I and Japanese destroyer JS Arike will also participate, as well as aircraft from four countries. The exercise begins when Iran unilaterally withdrew all limits of its 2015 nuclear deal with world powers in the wake of the then President Donald Trump’s 2018 decision.

President Joe Biden has expressed a desire to return to the deal if Iran respects the extent of the agreement on the nuclear deal. However, tensions are high after militias in Iraq – supported by Iran – continue to target US interests.

Last month, Biden, in retaliation, launched an air strike on the border in Syria, with each of Ronald Reagan’s US presidents who have ordered bombing of countries in the Middle East. There was no immediate response from Iran in the naval exercise.
