NRL Round 2 tips: A frustrated Andrew Johns has given the Titans some “advice” to overcome a David Fifita problem.

A frustratred Andrew Johns has implored Titans halves Ash Taylor and Jamal Fogarty to put their heads together and come up with a plan to give David Fifita clean ball in space after the star recruit was easily handled by the Warriors in Round 1.

Big things are expected of the Gold Coast in 2021 with the arrival of Fifita and fellow Origin star Tino Fa’asuamaleaui bringing renewed optimism to the Glitter Strip.

Johns described them as his “specials” for Round 2, as they host the Broncos in tomorrow night’s blockbuster local derby.

David Fifita is brought down by two Warriors tacklers.

Yet pushed by Brad Fittler on why the Titans would have the edge, Johns admitted he was tipping on potential over and above what he saw from them in Saturday’s loss to the Warriors.

Johns put the blowtorch on halves Taylor and Fogarty, likening their simplistic game plan in Fifita’s first run out for his new club to “Under 8s”.

“I’ve got a message for the Titans halves,” Johns told Fittler on Wide World of Sports’ Freddy & Joey’s Tips.

“It’s not Under 8s. You just don’t throw the ball to Dave Fifita and say ‘have a big run’. You’ve got to create space for him. Go and sit down and talk to him and understand how he likes the ball and when he likes the ball and come out with some shapes and formations, where he gets the ball and how he gets the ball.

“Where do I put the invoice?”

Fittler, meanwhile, tipped the Broncos due, at least in part, to the emergence of young back-rower Jordan Riki.

“I like him, he’s a good player,” Fittler said. “If they can learn to run with him, he’s got this great right hand, and then Tevita’s (Pangai Junior) got this great left hand there’s enough footy there to win matches, they’ve just got to get some of the other stuff right.”
