Golfing legend Tiger Woods has given the world a fresh update after being hospitalised last month.

The 45-year-old suffered serious leg injuries in a single-vehicle rollover accident near Los Angeles, where his SUV crossed a median strip and multiple lanes of traffic before hitting a tree and landing in brushland.

“Happy to report that I am back home and continuing my recovery,” Woods said through a statement on social media.

“I am so grateful for the outpouring of support and encouragement that I have received over the past few weeks.”

Woods’ injuries included tibia and fibula fractures, requiring a rod to be inserted, and additional injuries to the bones of the foot and ankle that were stabilised with screws and pins.

“Thank you to the incredible surgeons, doctors, nurses and staff at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center,” Woods said.

“You have all taken such great care of me and I cannot thank you enough.”

Woods finished his statement saying that he “will be recovering at home and working on getting stronger every day”.

Woods has stayed in touch with other golfers through text messages, and many honoured him by wearing red in the final round at last month’s WGC-Workday Championship.

Last week in an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Rory McIlroy suggested that Woods might be headed home to Florida.

“He’s doing better,” McIlroy said. “I think all the guys have reached out to him. Hopefully if things go well over the next week or so, he might be able to get home and start recovery at home, which would be great for him. See his kids, see his family.

“But yeah, he’s doing better. And I think all of us are wishing him a speedy recovery at this point.″
