Mark Steketee is second on the BBL10 wicket-taking list, but was a casualty of the Perth Scorchers’ blistering start.
Brisbane Heat paceman Mark Steketee was given a rude surprise after he was subbed out of his side’s BBL final after a blistering start by the Perth Scorchers.
Steketee, who has taken the second most wickets during BBL10, was hooked halfway through the Scorchers’ innings in exchange for South African quick Morne Morkel.
After the Scorchers raced to a score of 0-108 at the halfway mark of the innings, Heat skipper Chris Lynn gave a stunned Steketee the marching orders after his sole over had been taken for 13.
Clearly displeased by the decision, Steketee walked off the field shaking his head all the way back to the Heat’s dugout, before removing his spikes.
The decision to sub Steketee out came from left-field, given the Heat usually substitute Xavier Bartlett for Morkel, as they did in their previous match.
“Bartlett typically knew that he was going to get one over and he was going to be the X-Factor player,” Fox Cricket’s Mark Howard said on commentary.
“Look at this reaction here, Mark Steketee didn’t realise coming into the game that he could be taken out after 10 (overs).”
“That’s the body language of a guy that had no preparation for the news that was about to come,” Australian great Adam Gilchrist added.
