Benoit Paire and Fabio Fognini’s ATP Cup clash promised some fireworks, and it certainly did not disappoint at all.

French world no. 28 Benoit Paire has stunned commentators in one of the most bizarre service games you are ever likely to see in his ATP Cup clash against Fabio Fognini.

Paire faced off against Fabio Fognini in the first leg of France and Italy’s ATP Cup tie on Wednesday, and while the Italian ran away with the 6-1 7-6 win, it was Paire’s service game that took the headlines.

The incident occurred during the opening set with Paire serving and the scores tied 1-1, when he unleashed an incredible eight consecutive faults.

The Frenchman was serving while looking into the sun and struggled mightily to locate his radar, with Fognini also left bemused at one stage as he broke serve without ever hitting the ball.

Paire’s incredible blunder also left the commentary team of Geoff Masters and Colin Fleming stunned.

“Goodness me! Well that’s extraordinary,” Masters exclaimed on Nine’s coverage.

“I’m not sure that I’ve seen that ever before at this level. A bunch of double-faults and Fognini is gifted the break.”

“He’s clearly struggling with the sun as you’re seeing,” Fleming added.
